Playa Bacocho Guide

Sunset Spectacles and Sea Turtle Sanctuaries at Playa Bacocho Guide

Playa Bacocho is a sprawling, relatively undeveloped beach located just west of Puerto Escondido. Known for its powerful waves and stunning sunsets, it offers a more secluded and tranquil experience compared to the bustling beaches closer to town. While swimming is generally not recommended due to the strong currents, Playa Bacocho is a haven for sea turtle conservation and a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll along the shore. Playa Bacocho plays a vital role in the conservation of sea turtles. Several organizations operate turtle sanctuaries along the beach, working to protect nesting sites and release baby turtles into the ocean. These efforts are crucial for the survival of these endangered species. Visitors can participate in turtle release programs, a truly unforgettable experience. These releases typically occur in the late afternoon or early evening. Beyond turtle conservation, Playa Bacocho is ideal for sunbathing, enjoying the breathtaking sunsets, and taking long walks along the expansive shoreline. Several restaurants and bars are located along the beach, offering fresh seafood and refreshing drinks. The local cuisine often features grilled fish, shrimp tacos, and other regional specialties.
